While summer is still here, it’s best to know what’s up and trendy for the next season. Your summer tan lines will fade but your makeup game shouldn’t. Get to know the best trends we’ve compiled from the fashion authorities so you’ll be raring for fall!
Eyes on the Prize
“Eyes were the stars of the Fall ’15 shows. At Proenza Schouler, Diane Kendal applied a swoosh of black cream to models’ inner corners with her ring finger; Aaron de Mey customized an eyeshadow brush backstage at Kenzo by snipping a zigzag pattern across the top of the bristles; Dick Page swathed lids with a brilliant shade of blue at Céline for a uniform finish; and Peter Philips reached for a simple sponge applicator to craft clean, kidney-shaped blocks of color backstage at Dior.”
“Peter Philips calls it the “eye catcher”; Tom Pecheux says it’s rock ’n’ no matter how you spin it, the graphic eye dominated the catwalks during the Fall 2015 fashion season. “Graphic has a certain power,” says Pecheux, who created the looks at Chanel and Anthony Vaccarello. “When you see smoky, you think of something more light, gentle and romantic. Graphic is more powerful.” Philips says it’s also animalistic. At Dior, designer Raf Simons referenced “la femme animale,” which inspired Philips to draw a graphic interpretation of an animal print on the eyes. “I made sure the look was new and strong,” he says. “We’ve had a few seasons of very nude faces, so it’s saying, ‘Let’s play again with makeup and make it a bit more exciting.’”
Return of the Lashes
“Mascara can feel like something of a dirty words backstage at the shows, where make-up artists often shun it in favour of the clean, stark look that bare lashes bring. This season it was back in a big way, with layer upon layer of mascara creating doll-like looks at Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci, Blumarine and Alberta Ferretti.”
We love using Bella Elleganze 3D Fiber Lash Mascara to achieve this look. No need to pile on layers of mascara. Just a few applications and you’re all set.
Lip Gloss Loving
“As New York Fashion Week kicked off, we noticed something we hadn’t seen in a very long time – models sporting good, old-fashioned lip gloss. It made for high-shine pouts at Rag & Bone, Rodarte, Fendi and Roland Mouret, whilst it ventured onto the brows at Christopher Kane, the lids at Nina Ricci and even the cheeks at David Koma.”
Bare Faced Beauty
“Balmain is always our go-to show for the barefaced beauty trend and they’ve shown it’s on point again for AW15. Models including Gigi Hadid (pictured) showcased glowing skin with slightly stained pink lips and brushed brows.”
Small Fake Tattoos
“While Milan Fashion Week is usually all about polished glamour, Giamba broke the rules with multiple fake tattoos drawn all over the models. Makeup legend Val Garland asked herself “What would Cara [Delevingne] do?” and this was the results. We also love the skinny plaits positioned in the front of their hair, which jazz up ponytails a treat.”
